Hello! It will be my pleasure to work with you and your family and to share in the learning opportunities that exist for all of us at Westridge Elementary. We are all dedicated to providing a high quality education to all of our students.
My name is Mary Jane Stites, and I am the principal at Westridge. Our focus is creating a positive learning environment and providing our students with the highest quality educational programs. Everyone here at Westridge is dedicated and committed to doing what is best for all of our children and this is accomplished by creating the relationships between students, staff, parents and the community.
If you have the chance to visit us, plan on learning a lot and having fun. Please feel free to stop by, call or e-mail with your questions, successes, or suggestions. I believe strongly that it takes a strong school community working together so that our children can reach their full potential everyday!
Thank you for visiting our website.

Virtual Backpack - Flyers are now online!
How the Virtual Backpack Works
At the beginning of the school year, the WDMCS implemented a new going green approach for distributing flyers from the district and its non-profit community members to which approval is granted. Instead of sending this information home in your student's backpacks, links will be posted on the district website at www.wdmcs.org/district/virtualbackpack.
How will I get this information?
- You can visit the Virtual Backpack at any time. A link is on the district homepage (www.wdmcs.org).
- There is a permanent section in the Informaline (district newsletter) where new flyers are listed. The Informaline is emailed to all parents in the district through Infinite Campus. If your email is up to date and on file with your school, you should be getting notices with a link to the new edition of the Informaline and a link to the Virtual Backpack.
- The district also posts notices on the district Facebook page (www.facebook.com/wdmcs). If you “like” West Des Moines Community Schools, you will receive these notices in your Facebook News Feed.
- If you follow @WDMCS on Twitter, you will receive notices in your Twitter feed.
What if I don’t have a computer?
Please contact your school to make sure your student is getting a printed copy of the Informaline sent home with them. The Informaline is often attached to your school newsletter and is always printed on ivory colored paper. In each Informaline, there will be a Virtual Backpack section, where a list of new flyers, along with target age/grade and important dates, times, etc., will be listed. There will also be a contact phone number for each flyer if you need more information.
