1. Hy-Vee Foundation Scholarship
All high school seniors working for Hy-Vee and/or subsidiary who began their employment on or before September 15, 2008 are eligible to apply. High school senior sons and daughters of full, regular, and part-time Hy-Vee and subsidiary associates who have a minimum of six months employment with the company as of September 15, 2008 may also apply. Applicants must be enrolling in college for the first time. Up to 40 -- $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to 2008 high school seniors. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Applications must be postmarked by February 10, 2009.

- Visiting www.scholarships.com is an excellent way to conduct a free, college scholarship search. In addition to a scholarship search, students will also find an abundance of financial aid and loan information to help pay for college.

- This free service matches students with access to information on scholarships, internships, grants, and loans from various sources. Access at www.fastweb.com
- This College Board site, www.collebeboard.com/pay, offers a scholarship search plus planning and SAT information.
- The site www.wiredscholar.com offers college planning resources, as well as a scholarship search in an online database.
- www.collegeNET.com is another online scholarship search.
3. Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship
Eligibility for application is limited to men and women entering their senior year of high school in the 2008-2009 academic year who have at least a “B” grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport. The link to the online application is available at www.wendysheisman.com. Any eligible student can register and begin the application process. The online application must be completed by the student no later than 5:00 pm, central time, on October 1, 2008. Each applicant must have their online application reviewed and confirmed online by a school representative.
4. 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
This program specifically celebrates the spirit of volunteerism and recognizes those students who have particularly distinguished themselves through volunteer work. Applications can be filled out online at: www.prudential.com/spirit (access key: spirit). Once you have completed your online application, print it out, sign it, and have a parent sign it. Submit your printed and signed application to Mrs. Newkirk in the Guidance Office by Friday, October 31, 2008.
5. Better Business Bureau Student of Integrity Scholarship
The Des Moines Better business Bureau is sponsoring this scholarship to honor students of integrity. Winners will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the accredited college/university of his/her choice. Criteria for the award include leadership, community service, academics, integrity essay and letters of recommendation. Only one application per school can be accepted. All applications must be in to Mrs. Newkirk in the Counseling Office by Monday, December 8, 2008 (this gives the school time to choose their applicant and meet the postmark date of Dec. 15).
6. Ron Brown Scholar Program
This program awards scholarships to academically talented, highly motivated African-American students who are seniors in high school and plan to pursue undergraduate degrees full-time. Students must be U. S. citizen or hold permanent resident visa cards. There are 2 application deadlines: November 1, 2008 and January 9, 2009. Students who apply by the November deadline will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program and will have their application information forwarded to a select and limited number of additional scholarship providers. Students applying by the final deadline of January 9 will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program only. All application materials must be mailed in one packet. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or can be obtained from the website at: www.ronbrown.org.
7. The Gates Millennium Scholars Program
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding, low income African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline they choose. Applicants must be a U. S. citizen or have national or legal permanent residency in the U. S., have attained a GPA of 3.3 and be enrolling full time at an accredited college or university. Paper applications must be postmarked by January 12, 2009 and online applications must be submitted by January 12, 2009. Online applications are preferred and can be found at: www.gmsp.org.
8. 2008 Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship
Any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen is eligible to apply. Scholarship, leadership, and financial need are considered for this scholarship. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or can be downloaded from the elks website at: www.elks.org/enf/scholars. Applications must be postmarked no later than January 9, 2009.
9. Iowa Junior Miss Scholarship Program
This program is open to all senior girls. A complete entry form with a copy of your transcript must be submitted by September 29, 2008. A 90-second talent presentation is required. Applicants will be judged on talent, interview, poise and fitness. The Junior Miss program looks to reward the “all-around” individual who participates in school and community activities, is good scholastically and generally likes to “get involved”.
10. AXA Achievement Scholarship
The AXA Achievement Scholarship offers college scholarships in varying amounts to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Applicants must plan on enrolling full-time in an accredited two or four year college or university in the United States in the fall of 2008. Applications must be postmarked by December 15, 2008. 11. University of Iowa – Presidential Scholarship Program
To be eligible for this program, students must: Have a 3.8 cumulative grade point average; Have an ACT composite score of 30 or better. Old Gold Scholarships of $3,000 a year for up to our years will recognize up to 350 of the most outstanding candidates in the Presidential Scholarship competition. Presidential Scholarships are worth $40,000 ($10,000 for four years) and will be awarded to 20 Old Gold Scholars. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. They can also be downloaded at www.uiowa.edu/admissions/undergrad/scholarships/first-year. Completed applications must be postmarked by December 12, 2008. Transcripts must accompany the application!
12. Coca Cola Scholarship
This scholarship is for well-rounded students with highly developed interests in their community. Applications must be submitted online at: www.coca-colascholars.org.
Scholarships vary in amounts from $10,000 - $20,000. Application Deadline – October 31, 2008.
13. Iowa Newspaper Foundation Scholarship Program
These scholarships (varied amounts) are for students preparing for a newspaper industry. Two letters or recommendation and two samples of your writing are required. Applications must be postmarked by February 13, 2009. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or may be downloaded at www.inanews.com/inf/scholarships/php.
14. Elks National Foundation Legacy Scholarship
This four-year, $4,000 scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of Elk members who are high school seniors, going on to college and exhibit the core values of the Elks national Foundation: knowledge, charity, community and integrity. Applications must be sent to the Elks National Foundation office postmarked no later than January 9, 2009
15. NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Scholarship
These scholarships are to recognize the entrepreneurial spirit of graduating high school seniors. Students need to demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative by starting his/her own business, participating in business organizations, or through other initiatives. (You should consider any endeavors or work experience you have offered as a community service. Examples: babysitting, lawn care, dog walking, tutoring, etc. An officially established business is not a requirement.) Applications are done online at www.NFIB.com/YEA. Application deadline is Dec. 15. 2008.
