 Valley
High School is a three-year comprehensive high school with an enrollment
of approximately 1,900 students. It is accredited by the State of
Iowa and the North Central Association. The campus is located in
West Des Moines, a suburban community of approximately 55,000 residents
bordering the western city limits of Des Moines.
Valley
emphasizes the Four A's of education: Academics, Activities, Arts,
and Athletics. The staff at Valley strives to provide a high quality
education with many exciting opportunities and challenges to stretch
students' minds and abilities. This combination of the four "A's"
gives students a wide range of experiences and knowledge before
leaving high school.
The West Des Moines Community School District serves more than 50,000
people who live in the western portion of Polk County -- West Des
Moines and Clive, parts of Urbandale, Windsor Heights and nearby
rural areas.
Each student is assigned to an Advisory which will meet each Tuesday
and Wednesday with the focus of building relationships. Attendance
is required. If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility
to contact his/her advisor for communication materials. Unexcused
absences will result in 5 suspension points. A student
who has accumulated fifteen or more suspension points due to absences
in advisory will either serve three detensions or one day in-school
suspension. Student will also lose the semester test waiver privilege.
Suspension points will accumulate throughout the school year.
