Community and Local Scholarships

Davis Celebrating Families: The Savannah Davis Celebrating Families Award  Scholarship Description: This scholarship is $500 and will be given in the name of Savannah Davis, who is the daughter of Kim and Matt Davis. The Davis family would like to celebrate other young people who have been adopted and they would like to support their post-secondary education. This award will be given to a student who was legally adopted who will enroll at a 2 or 4-year post-secondary institution to continue their education. This award will be given to an individual who values, loves and “celebrates” their family, who has good character, and who has demonstrated academic achievement.

The Maddox Davis Celebrating Families Award Scholarship Description: This scholarship is $500 and will be given in the name of Maddox Davis, who is the son of Kim and Matt Davis. The Davis family would like to celebrate other young people who have been adopted and they would like to support their post-secondary education. This award will be given to a student who was legally adopted who will enroll at a 2 or 4-year post-secondary institution to continue their education. This award will be given to an individual who values, loves and “celebrates” their family, who has good character, and who has demonstrated academic achievement.

WCC Business Scholarship Application Scholarship Description: This scholarship is $500 and is for someone who plans to study business after high school.  To be eligible for this award, you should have chosen to major in a business field at an accredited college or university and have completed the college application process.

John Sechrist Scholarship Application Scholarship Description: This scholarship is $250 and is for someone who plans to study an automotive related area.

John Morris Singer Scholarship Application Scholarship Description: This scholarship is $500 and is for someone who has similar interests and embodies qualities of John. Characteristics include:

  • Environmentally conscious
  • Love for the great outdoors
  • Interested in coin collection
  • Plan to study social studies or science in some manner

The QCI and David Edelstein Scholarship                                               Scholarship Description: This scholarship is $500 and will be given in the name of David Edelstein sponsored by QCI, a Des Moines IT Consulting firm.  We have personally observed the dedication and care the Mr. Edelstein has put forth as an educator, a dedication that is well beyond the call of duty.  This award is to be given to a student who has exhibited a similar level of dedication to his or her studies who will enroll at a 2 or 4-year post-secondary institution to continue their education.  This award is intended to help a young student who has displayed the hard work and motivation to reach their goals through further education.  Three finalists will be chosen by Mr. Edelstein to be interviewed by Irving (President of QCI) and Jennifer Hahn (YJI).

Student of Character Scholarship Application Scholarship DescriptionThis scholarship is $500 and is for someone who demonstrates good character in school and/or in their personal life.

The following scholarships are arranged by due date. Check back with Leah because the list is always changing.

Guardian Scholars Foundation Scholarship There is no deadline, and applications are considered as they’re submitted. The Guardian Scholars Foundation provides a comprehensive program that leverages the expertise and resources of both the public and private sector to offer support for youth exiting the foster care system in Iowa. The scholarship provides up to $8,000 a year to help fund a college education from a college or university in Iowa. The online application and scholarship criteria are available at www.guardianscholarsfoundation.com.

Nursing Schools Almanac will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:

  • A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics
  • A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of health care

This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. Scholarship applications will be accepted until midnight on June 30, 2016.  We ask interested students to visit www.nursingschoolsalmanac.com and click the banner on the right-hand side of the website’s homepage.
