Valley Senior Guowei Qi Named 2017 Coca-Cola Scholar
Valley High School senior Guowei Qi has been recognized as one of the country’s most outstanding high school leaders by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. One of just two 2017 Coca-Cola Scholars from Iowa and 150 total 2017 Scholars, Qi was selected from a pool of nearly 86,000 initial applicants. Coca-Cola Scholars are awarded a $20,000 college scholarship for demonstrating superior leadership, service, and academics, as well as positively affecting others in their communities.
“Guowei Qi is part of a diverse group of extraordinary high school seniors that have shown a steadfast commitment to educational excellence, leadership and service to the school and community,” said Claude Nielsen, Chairman of the Board of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. “The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is proud to name Mr. Qi as a 2017 Coca-Cola Scholar.”
Qi is invited to travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for Scholars Weekend in April. He will have the chance to participate in a Leadership Development Institute to further develop his leadership skills, tour local landmarks, engage with former Coca-Cola Scholars and participate in a group community service project. He is also invited to attend a banquet in the Scholars’ honor. Jean Case, CEO of the Case Foundation and Chairman of the National Geographic Society Board of Trustees, will serve as the featured speaker.
Congratulations to Guowei Qi!
