Valley Jazz Orchestra Best in State for 2015

Valley High School’s Jazz Orchestra won first place in 4A at the Iowa Jazz Championships on Tuesday, March 31, at the Des Moines Civic Center. The group bested Waukee to win the title with its evening performance (video available from Julie Igram). Valley’s Jazz Orchestra has earned the honor of being best in state for the last three years.

Additional congratulations go to Taylor Igram on alto saxophone, who earned one of the four Outstanding Soloist awards in recognition for the day’s performances of 4A bands. Soloist awards were also earned by Noah Welch on tenor saxophone, Sam Anderson on trumpet, and Bridget Shoemaker on bass.

Jazz Orchestra members include Taylor Igram, Matt Nicholson, Denny Nguyen, Cole Petersen, Bryce Sederburg, Noah Welch on saxophones; Sam Anderson, Joe Ericson, Matt Lowe, Abi Roach, Orlando Sanchez on trumpets; Jacob Bedia, Joe Brennan, Morgan Johnson, Travis Moore, Jared Paine on trombones; bassist Bridget Shoemaker drummer Derek Pham; pianist Ben Sanders; Nick Behrends on vibes; and guitarist Dev Thaker.
