Valley High School Student Council Earns Second Honor Council Award

The Valley High School Student Council has earned an Iowa Association of Student Councils (IASC) Honor Council Award for the second consecutive year. It will receive special recognition at the Iowa Student Leadership Conference in Des Moines on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017.

The Honor Council Award recognizes student councils that present evidence of having an effective and progressive council organization in a variety of areas. Student councils compile and submit an application and scrapbook, which are scored by a committee of IASC Advisory Board members. A student council must receive a minimum of 80 points to receive the “Honor Council” award.

Valley High School’s 2016-17 Student Council was led by President John Mahoney and Vice President Brendan Roe. Additional members of the Executive Cabinet were Shubham Tayal (Secretary of Academics), Kate Sullivan (Secretary of Activities), Kathryn Crowley (Secretary of Arts), Jack Hamborg (Secretary of Athletics), Caitlin Mills (Secretary of Communications), Ethan Ellinger (Secretary of Finance), and Jocelyn Westerhold (Secretary of Philanthropy).

Senior class representatives were T.J. Foley, Hannah Fuller, Trent Gilbert, Brian Gu, Meier Lipman, Lizbeth Salinas-Reyes, Emily Steimel, Jessica Studer, Izzy Wilde, and Ginny Wyckoff.

Junior class representatives were Emma Bohn, Michael Bryan, Marcus Chew, Aarushi Dervesh, Taylor Gion, Quinn Herbert, Emily Johnson, Jamia Jordan, Ariz Keshwani, Carter Oakley, Anvay Pradhan, Jacob Rhein, Ann Thomas, Linh Tran, and Nancy Truong.

Sophomore class representatives were Alivia Agey, Jane Berg, Helen Gould, Thomas Hathaway, Savannah Hunt, James Meng, Maya Shah, Kate Snodgrass, Greta Stewart, Suzy Thomas, Suhkman Virdi, and Blaise Wittern.

Valley High School’s 2016-17 student council sponsors were art teacher Tory DeVries, special education teacher Jill Egger, and family and consumer science teacher Kelli King.
