Jessica Martens, a 2015 Valley High School graduate, will be representing Iowa at the National High School Musical Theater Awards from June 24-30 in New York. Martens won the trip as part of the Triple Threat Award at the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards. The award is the program’s top honor and recognizes students for their acting, singing and dancing abilities.

Martens will have the opportunity to participate in workshops, lessons and an awards ceremony while attending the National High School Musical Theater Awards on Broadway. She will spend the next three weeks preparing solos, some from her role as“Dorothy” in Valley’s spring musical, “The Wizard of Oz,” to perform for other attendees and show business professionals.

Martens also won an Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role award for her performance as “Dorothy” at the June 1 awards showcase. She was featured as a soloist and as part of “The Jitterbug” dance excerpt. “The Wizard of Oz” won 14 total awards and was one of six productions statewide to earn the Outstanding Musical Production award.
