Summer is a time to relax and have fun. It is also a wonderful time to read together, sharing the wonder and excitement of a new book. Parents/guardians play an important role in a child’s development of a love for reading. This summer we would like to help you develop this love of reading with the Summer READO (BINGO) program.
To participate students will read from a variety of formats, including books, magazines, newspapers, and much more. Please encourage your child to choose from the activities listed on the READO sheet. He/she can record his/her accomplishments on the attached Summer READO sheet. For a student to record their progress they only need an adult to initial in each box as they complete them. Grade level goals: Students in Kindergarten, First, and Second grades will need to have a blackout (all boxes initialed) on their green card; grades 3-6 will need to have a bingo two ways (diagonal, vertical or horizontal) on their blue card.
Completed sheets may be placed in the READO box, in the office, by August 22. Students who complete and return their Summer READO sheet will enjoy an extra recess and popsicle in the fall.
Our summer reading program is voluntary. However, this can be a pleasant and rewarding activity for your family. Have a great summer, and happy reading!
