Fairmeadows Walking School Bus Kick-Off
Would you like your child/ren to be more healthy and have a safe way to walk to and from school? Walking School Bus could be for you! Our Spring season for Walking School Bus will begin Monday, April 2 and continue through Friday, June 1.
Our Walking School Bus Kick-Off was a great success! There was information, applications, volunteer forms, articles and sample volunteer leader (Walking School Bus Driver) backpacks.
We had 39 students meet at Fairmeadows Park and walk together to school with our Walking School Bus "Drivers", also known as adult volunteers. Check out the pictures of our safe and healthy fun on the way to school today.
6th graders practice their rhythm skills in a fun and creative way as they “flash mob” students studying in the Media Center! Check out their “Cup Game” performed to “The Twist.”
Fairmeadows fifth graders and their teachers, along with Boy Scouts from Pack 280, worked hard to share what they have learned about Veteran's Day with the entire school, Veterans in attendance and with our speakers. Selected fifth graders read their essays on Veteran's Day. You can click on the student name to view their essay. NoahTinsleyTannerLauren The fifth grade performed a patriotic song, directed by Mrs. Augspurger. We all enjoyed learning about Veteran's Day and what it was like as a soldier from Mr. Dan Gannon, a Vietnam War Veteran. Fairmeadows families' veterans were honored in the finale presentation.
Fairmeadows is one of 12 schools in the state of Iowa to participate in I-WALK (Iowans Walking Assessments Logistics Kit). I-WALK is an Iowa Safe Routes to School (SRTS) project funded through the Iowa Department of Transportation, administered by Iowa Department of Public Health and Iowa State University Extension.
The goal of I-WALK is to provide community coalitions with relevant local information to help them continuously update, implement, and evaluate their Safe Routes to School plans. At Fairmeadows we hope to integrate our plans for safety, health, wellness and our Physical Education initiatives.
You can access more information and the draft report prepared for Fairmeadows by clicking here. We will continue to meet to ensure the safety and wellness of our Fairmeadows students and community.
