Kindergarten Technology Guidelines

All students should have opportunities to demonstrate the following skills and behaviors prio to the completion of kindergarten.


STANDARD 1: Basic operations and concepts

1. Use input devices (e.g., mouse, keyboard, remote control) and output devices (e.g., monitor, printer) efficiently and effectively.

  • Use audio-visual equipment such as tapes, CDs, and DVDs.
  • Turn computer on and off.
  • Log in and out of the network.
  • Open and close a program with assistance.
  • Use mouse/pointer/cursor.
  • Perform keyboarding basics (space bar, enter key, recognize letter & number keys).


2. Use developmentally appropriate multimedia and technology resources (e.g., interactive books, educational software) to support learning.


3. Communicate about technology, using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology.

 

STANDARD 2: Social, ethical, and human issues

1. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers and others when using technology in the classroom.

  • Take turns, share responsibility with peers.


2. Demonstrate positive social and ethical behaviors.

  • Use body basics
  • Ask for assistance appropriately when using technology


3. Practice responsible use of technology systems and software.

  • Treat devices with respect.
  • Keep hands on own computer.
