All students should have opportunities to demonstrate the following skills and behaviors prio to the completion of 6th grade.
STANDARD 1: Basic operations and concepts
- Use input devices and output devices (e.g. mouse, keyboard, scanner, monitor and printer) devices proficiency.
- Use photo editing software to manipulate digital photos
- Use data storage devices (flash drive, CDs, home drive)
- Independent troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrate proper keyboarding technique when using application software.
STANDARD 2: Social, ethical and human issues
- Demonstrate positive social and ethical behaviors when using technology.
- Discuss basic issues related to responsible use of technology and information (advantages and disadvantages) and describe consequences of inappropriate use.
- Understand plagiarism is against the law
- Citing sources
STANDARD 3: Technology productivity tools
- Use general-purpose programs to facilitate learning throughout the curriculum.
- Kidspiration
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Mapmaker’s Toolkit
- Timeliner
- Apply Word processing skills, including the following;
- Paragraph alignments
- Using Spell and Grammar Check
- Spacing (single v. double)
- Inserting and Edit Pictures from a File and the Internet
- Cutting/Copying and Pasting
- Tables and Charts
- Bullets and Numbering
- Borders and Shading
- Customizing the Toolbars
- Columns
- Text Boxes
- Using Help and Student Tools Menus to Problem Solve Independently
STANDARD 4: Technology communication tools
- Use technology tools to communicate individual or collaborative projects for audiences inside and/or outside the classroom.
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Create a multi-page PowerPoint presentation that includes multimedia content.
- Utilize scanners for presentation/project purposes
- Use telecommunications efficiently to access Internet sites, communicate with others in support of direct and independent learning, and pursue personal interests.
- Utilize individual student email accounts for educational purposes
STANDARD 5: Technology research tools
- Use the technology resources as a mode to access information.
- Internet Search Engines
- Subscription Databases (e.g. AEA subscriptions)
STANDARD 6: Technology problem-solving and decision-making tools

Use technology resources for problem solving, self-directed learning, and extended learning activities.
- Calculators, videos/CDs/DVDs, educational software and web sites.
- Use a variety of media and technology resources for directed and independent learning activity.
- Efficiently navigate the Internet with a Purpose
- Discuss the relevance and appropriateness of electronic information sources.
- Evaluate web sites for validity.
- Evaluate the accuracy, relevance, appropriateness, comprehensiveness, and bias of electronic information sources.
