2nd Grade Technology Guidelines

All students should have opportunities to demonstrate the following skills and behaviors prio to the completion of 2nd grade.

STANDARD 1: Basic operations and concepts

  • Use input devises (e.g., mouse, keyboard, remote control) and output devises (e.g., monitor, printer) efficiently and effectively.
    • Use audio-visual equipment such as tapes, CDs, and DVDs.
    • Turn computer on and off.
    • Log in and out of the network.
    • Open and close a program independently.
    • Use mouse/pointer/cursor.
    • Perform keyboarding basics (escape, backspace, shift keys, and delete).
    • Use microphone, headphones, and printer.
  • Use developmentally appropriate multimedia and technology resources (e.g., interactive books, educational software) to support learning.
    • Demonstrate ability to navigate through a book-marked Internet site.
  • Communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology.

STANDARD 2:  Social, ethical, and human issues

  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers and others when using technology in the classroom.
    • Assist and problem solve with other students.
  • Demonstrate positive social and ethical behaviors when using technology. 
    • Respect others who are working.  
    • Follow computer/printer usage expectations.
    • Follow teacher directions on how to exit an inappropriate site or pop-up.
  • Practice responsible use of technology systems and software. 
    • Treat equipment with respect.

STANDARD 3:  Technology productivity tools

  • Create developmentally appropriate multimedia products Independently.
    • Produce word-processed stories and poems, illustrations, number sentences, math problems and patterns.

STANDARD 4:  Technology communications tools

  • Gather information and communicate with others using telecommunications, with support from teachers or student partners.
    • Use Internet as a place to access information stored by others.


LEARNER BEHAVIOR - Create developmentally appropriate multimedia products Independently

  • Produce word-processed stories and poems, illustrations, number sentences, math problems and patterns.
