2009-10 Fall Registration
Elementary Schools
Most elementary schools conduct mail-in registration in the spring. Families may also register and pay fees during fall walk-in registration at their school.

New family registration at all elementary schools:

New family and ESL registration is Aug. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Because of the remodeling at the school, registration for Indian Hills will be held at the Learning Resource Center located at 3550 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines.

August 6 (Seventh Grade)

8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
August 7 (Eighth Grade) 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
August 10 (All) 3 to 7 p.m.

Stilwell -
New student and seventh grade orientation is Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium

High Schools
(Mail-in registration packets will be sent to high school students around the end of June. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to pre-register. All students must participate in the on-site registration process in August, but for those who mailed in their paperwork early, on-site registration should be much quicker.

Valley High School
** Please plan to attend your assigned registration date. Expect long lines on Wednesday, August 12 (doors will be locked at 6:30 p.m.). mail-in registration and pre-payment will help expedite the wait time in lines. New students should register on August 6 by appointment only at 633-4130.

English Language Learners

Non or limited English speaking students new to the district should register through the Welcome Center located at Valley High School. Call (515) 633-4296 to schedule an appointment.

During the summer, make appointments by calling Joanne McIntyre at (515) 633-5066.

Immunization

Iowa law requires:

DTaP/Tdap (Diptheria/Pertussis/Tetanus) – Five doses with at least one dose after age 4 years if born on or after September 15, 2003 OR four doses with at least one dose after the age of 4 years if born after September 15, 2000
Polio Booster – Four doses with at least one dose received on or after age 4 if born after September 15, 2003 OR three doses with one dose given on or after the age of 4 years if born on or before September 15, 2003


MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) – Two doses of measles and rubella vaccine (MR or MMR) are required. First dose given on or after 12 months of age, the second dose received no less than 28 days after the first

Hepatitis B – Three doses required if born on or after July 1, 1994

Varicella (chicken pox) – One dose on or after 12 months of age if born after September 15, 1997 OR 2 doses (the first on or after 12 months of age) if born on or after September 15, 2003 OR has a reliable history of disease.

Iowa state law requires any child who is entering kindergarten, ninth grade, or is an out-of-state transfer, to provide the school with proof of a dental screening. For elementary school, a screening that is done between the ages 3 to 6 is acceptable. For ninth grade and transfer students, a screening completed within one year prior to enrollment is acceptable. Screening results are required to be on an Iowa Department of Public Health Certificate Of Dental Screening.
