The West Des Moines Community School District is actively monitoring reports of the H1N1 flu outbreak in the United States and worldwide so that we are prepared to respond quickly and efficiently if the need arises. The district has a flu pandemic response plan currently in place. We are communicating with our principals, nurses, teachers and other staff members so they may be watchful and proactively report any signs of student symptoms that could be attributed to the flu. We will continue to work with our community partners to keep you updated on the latest information and appreciate your attention and support.

Third grade classes from Western Hills Elementary School recently planted more than 250 shrubs in the new courtyard area on school grounds.

For the 2008-09 school year, Western Hills students were housed at the swing school (formerly Clegg Park) while their school was remodeled. The construction is nearing completion and students will return to their school for the 2009-10 school year.

The
West Des Moines Community School District will be a caring community
of learners that knows and lifts every child. We will inspire
joy in learning. Our schools will excel at preparing each student
for his or her life journey.
