Age
Guidelines
Most preschools use guideines set by the State of Iowa –
a birthday on or before Sept. 15 – to assign your child
to a class.
Types of Preschools
The western suburbs have many preschools, with many located
in churches. Most of the preschools are considered “traditional”
programs. This means the teacher provides the curriculum and
directs a wide variety of activities during the day. Traditional
preschools focus on socialization and early literacy activities.
The area also has several Montessori preschools
to choose from. These programs are considered to be child-directed
with hands-on learning. Montessori centers have teachers trained
in the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori.
Registration Fees
& Health Information
Most preschools will charge a registration fee and some may
ask for the first month’s tuition as well. You will
need to fill out information and health forms and provide
your child’s immunization records when you register.
Tuition costs vary depending on the center and the number
of days the child attends.
