Standard #1: Reading for Information:
Students will read and understand informational materials, describe characteristics of informational text and use facts, ideas and perspectives in developing concepts.

Standard #1:
Students engage in the writing process: All students will plan, write and revise while identifying personal strengths and weaknesses in writing.
- 3.1.a. Students will brainstorm, draft, revise, and edit a descriptive or narrative piece of writing.
- 3.1.b. Students will demonstrate and apply conventions of English. They will transfer conventions including spelling, punctuation, capitalization and usage in their writing.

Students write for a variety of purposes and audiences: All students will demonstrate an understanding of purpose and audience in their writing.
- 3.2.c. Students will gather and organize information. They will utilize compare/contrast and Venn diagrams to inform and explain in fall and spring semesters (Expository genre)
- 3.2.d. Students will write pieces in three genre. (Descriptive, narrative, persuasive.)
