Junior High Curriculum Overview

SEVENTH GRADE

All seventh grade students are required to take four regular academic subjects:  English, mathematics, social studies, and science, plus an exploratory block of nine-week courses consisting of technology education, art, consumer economics/career education and family consumer science/life skills.  Students also take physical education, a music, and study hall on an alternating basis.  The school day consists of seven 50-minute periods.

Exploratory Block Program:
Art, Family Consumer Science/Life Skills, Technology Education, Consumer Economics/Career Education

Students are required to be in one of the four music electives:  general music, band, chorus, and orchestra.  Additional choices can be made if they can be scheduled.  Library media is incorporated into courses.

EIGHTH GRADE

A total of five academic courses are required each semester.  These include the full year courses of English, mathematics, science, and social studies.  The remaining course(s) may be chosen from the electives.  Physical education is required and meets on an alternating basis opposite study hall or a music elective. 

A maximum class load would consist of the required classes, four semesters of electives and extended learning which would fill class periods.  A minimum class load would consist of the required classes, two semesters of electives, and nine study halls per six-day cycle.  Library media is incorporated into courses.
