Valley Construction - January 2005

Update through January 26, 2005
Work continues on the bore under 35th Street. A new drill bit was required when rock was hit and progress came to a halt. It is hoped that the new bit will work so that the connection can be made to the sanitary line and the balance of the line then run to the building. The majority of the block for the new Chiller Room/Auto Shop has been placed. Most of the roof support steel has been set and some decking has been placed. Trenching and conduit for the new primary connection is underway. The condenser water tank has been moved into the Chiller Room. Work continues on piping in the Mechanical Room. Boilers have been shipped and are expected to be on site and set in place in the next few days, which will allow the finishing of the enclosure of the west wall. The first stage of helical anchors needed for shoring that will allow removal of the existing underground tanks is in process. That work, along with some piling for that shoring, will be ongoing for the next couple of weeks.

Update through January 13, 2005
The snow, ice, and cold weather slow the progress, but certainly don’t halt it. The bore under 35th Street to connect to the existing sanitary sewer main continues to be a challenge, as now that the underground obstructions have been overcome, the equipment has broken down. The current expectation is that repairs will be made this week and allow for the connection to be made by Monday evening. Then the balance of the pipe can be installed back to the building during the week of the January 17. Masonry work continues on the new mechanical addition with tenting and heating of the walls. Most of the west wall for the new building is complete and is ready to commence at the former Auto Shop. The construction of the south wall is scheduled to start next week and roof joists should also arrive next week. Work continues in the new Boiler Room with piping and electrical work well underway. The interior wall for the Electrical Room and Water Room has been erected. All of the switch gear has been set and most work is now complete in the loading dock and dumpster area.

Update through January 6, 2005
Pace has slowed a bit this week due to nasty weather. Rerouting of the gas line on 35th Street has been accomplished and the bore to connect to the existing sanitary sewer and installation of the line back to the building is now scheduled for the week of January 10. Some exterior block work continues on the Chiller Room/Auto Repair Shop. A new floor slab has been poured in the Boiler Room and work continues on plumbing and electrical in that room. Block work for the Electrical Room expansion on the north end has been completed. Switch gear equipment has also been set in this room. Work continues on plumbing, electrical and sheet metal work in the existing Metal and Wood Shops, as that space is available. Removal of the underground tanks is now scheduled to start the week of January 10. Interior block work for the Electrical Room in the corner of the Boiler Room is also underway. The west wall for the new Boiler Room (which is the converted auto repair area) has been removed and now has a temporary enclosure to allow workmen to continue in the inclement weather.
