The site utility work continues with work in the southwest
corner of the site delayed due to the discovery of an old
building foundation. Additional soil borings have been taken
and the design modification has been made. The additional
work is currently being priced and will be implemented in
the next few days. Storm sewer inlet boxes are poured and
all that remains to be completed is the top rims which will
be set at the time of site paving. Footings for the center
section and the west wing (except a very small area in the
southwest corner that is being affected by the old building
foundation) are complete. Rebar is being tied and the first
footing pour for the east section of the building will begin
later this week. The modifications to the Walnut Creek site,
including new paving, will be start next week and the paving
portion is scheduled to be complete before school starts.
Off-site utility work which is being administered by the West
Des Moines Water Works continues to progress. Storm sewer
pipe has been laid from Vine to Hillside and is nearing completion
and will connect to the storm sewer pipe from our site. Work
continues on the underslab utilities. Slab construction is
scheduled to start in mid-August. Pre-cast production is underway
and the first deliveries are scheduled to be on site mid-August.
Through July 23
The on-site utility work is well underway. Most water lines
are in. Storm sewer inlet boxes are being poured and storm
water lines are being installed. Utility and foundation work
has been slowed in the southwest corner of the site due to
issues with an old building foundation. Almost all of the
west wing footing has been poured. Approximately half of the
central area footings have been poured and work is now commencing
on the other portion of that footing. Work on the footings
for the east wing is scheduled to start on Monday, July 26.
All stub outs for under building utilities have been completed
except a portion of the under-slab work in the west wing which
is being delayed because old underground utilities were uncovered
and must be dealt with first. Trenching and laying of conduit
for the power into the building is nearing completion. Off
-site utility work on Eighth Street and Hillside, which is
being administered by the West Des Moines Water Works, is
underway and as soon as that storm sewer is complete, the
Hillside site will be connected. Grading for the berm in the
northeast corner of the site has been roughed in and hydro-seeded
for erosion control in that corner of the site. Shop drawings
for the pre-cast are almost completed and production should
start on the pre-cast material this week. First delivery is
scheduled for mid-August. Shop drawings for the steel are
being reviewed and should be returned to the steel contractor
in order for fabrication of steel materials to get underway
in the next few days.
The on-site utility work continues and work is underway on
the storm sewer lines on the southwest portion of the site.
Another old building footing has been discovered and the soils
consultant is working on a recommendation of how best to deal
with the issue. Crews are working on the foundations and work
is well underway on the central and west portions of the building.
In collaboration with the West Des Moines Water Works, water
line and storm sewer work is scheduled to begin on Eighth
Street the week of July 21. Grading on the earthen berm in
the northeast corner of the property is underway. When the
grading is completed, the area will be hydro-seeded in an
effort to minimize any further water and silt runoff issues.
Pre-cast shop drawings are in the final review process and
production of pre-cast materials is scheduled to start the
week of July 21.
