The roof over the gymnasium and the media center is now complete
to the stage that all beneath remains dry regardless of the
weather. Roofers continue to work on the west wing and should
be nearing completion soon. They will then move to the east
wing and the dining room/mechanical room portions of the center
wing. There have been some delays due to steel details which
have now been resolved. That steel is being placed on Friday,
January 2 and this will allow completion of the roof deck
so the roofers can continue with their work. A portion of
the opening on the second floor east wing has now been framed
so it is ready to be enclosed. Interior walls for the first
floor of the east wing have all been studded and work is underway
in the west wing installing studs for interior walls. Work
continues on the rough-in for mechanical, electrical and plumbing
throughout the building. The metal stairways have not been
delivered and are approximately two weeks out. Temporary heating
is being used in the lower level of the east and west wings,
as work on the interior walls and various portions of masonry
continues.
The west wing, center wing, and lower level of the east wing
have all been enclosed. The interior wall framing and furring
of exterior walls in the lower level of the east wing will
be complete soon. Framing of openings for the second floor
of the east wing is underway. Roof deck has been placed on
all of the building with the exception of the east wing. Two
bearing masonry walls for the east wing need to be completed
and work is underway with the expectation that both will be
completed in a week. This will then allow for the installation
of the balance of the roof deck. Roofing is underway on the
center wing and is approximately one-third complete on that
wing. With good weather (temps above 17°F, little snow,
and no high winds), this section should be completed by the
end of December. The roofers will then move to the west wing.
An additional crew will be added around the first of the year
to finish the roof work. All floors in the building have been
poured with these exceptions – a small portion of the
second floor of the east wing, the stage area of the dining
room, and the teachers’ workroom. Those areas will be
finished as soon as the building is completely heated. Rough-in
of electrical and mechanical systems continues throughout
the building. The metal stairs are scheduled to be delivered
in the very near future, and final steel placement and framing
of the office area has also been scheduled. The small, unpaved
portion of the parking will be poured in the spring. The lower
level of the east wing and the west wing are now heated, which
allows for more productive performance of the rough-in. As
soon as all roofing is in place, the insulated heating and
cooling ducts will be installed.
Through December 4
All the approaches on Eighth Street and most of the parking
lot have now been poured. However, there is one small
section of parking lot that remains and weather permitting,
it will also be completed before spring. All of the precast
has been set and the final pieces of steel are being placed
on the west wing. Roof deck for the west wing should
be placed soon. Areas that have masonry are being enclosed
with metal studs and backing material and most of that work
is complete on the center wing and the lower level of the
east wing; and is now underway on the west wing. A portion
of the floor deck for the second floor of the east wing has
been poured and the remainder is scheduled to be poured next
week. The roof deck is on the center wing and the roofer has
started. However, the snow has temporarily halted work. Significant
amounts of mechanical and electrical work have been placed
in the center and east wings and work continues on interior
block walls as weather permits.
