Hillside Construction - August 2003

Update through August 26, 2004
Work continues on the gymnasium floor. It is expected the floor will be complete, cured, and ready for use early the week of August 30. Some door security and electrical issues remain to be completed. The ribbon has been cut and the school is open. There are still a couple of areas that need to be punched by the architect and contractor. Upon fixing the items on the punch list, construction will be complete. There are some areas on site where the grass hasn’t sprouted as well as needed, and those areas are being reviewed to determine if a re-seeding or re-sodding solution will be needed.

Update through August 19, 2004
Work is underway on the gym floor installation. Work also continues on finalizing electrical hookups and the security system. The elevator has been inspected and approved and a temporary Certificate of Occupancy has been issued. Most of the furniture has been delivered to the building and is now in the process of being assembled and set in place. Most teachers have been working in their rooms to get them arranged to their satisfaction. A blackout period starts Thursday, August 19 at 4:00 p.m. and will continue until Monday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m., while final cleaning and polishing takes place. The contractors will then be back to work on punch list items. The school will be opened as planned on August 25, however, there will be some punch list items that will need to be handled and coordinated so as not to interrupt the learning process.

Update through August 12, 2004
Sod work continues on site. Most fencing is complete. Poles for the parking lot are in place and some lights are operational, however, there are still some ballasts that need to be installed on a few lights. The majority of the building has been punched with the exception of a few areas in the center wing. All flooring should be installed by the end of the day, Friday, August 13, with the exception of the gym floor, which is just starting. Furniture deliveries and assembling continues with furniture in most rooms. A temporary certificate of occupancy was issued on Tuesday, August 10 and teachers have started the move-in process. Elevator re-inspection is now set for August 18, however, the elevator has been used with a professional operator in order to get the furniture and other materials to the 2nd floor. Work will continue on the finishing touches until a blackout period starts on Thursday, August 19 at 4 p.m. and will continue until Monday, August 23 at 8 am while final cleaning and polishing takes place.

Update through August 9, 2004
Trees have been planted on site and sod work is now underway on the front part of the building and on the islands in the parking lot. Fencing is complete on the south side of the building and is being completed on the north and east sides. Poles for the parking lot have been set, however, the ballasts for the lights are yet to be installed. The west wing is complete and the punch list has been created for items that need rework. Most of the furniture for this area has been delivered to the rooms and assembly is nearly complete on the computer tables in the Technology Room. The center wing still needs some flooring in a portion of the entryway and the gym floor needs to be installed. Both of those items should be underway later this week. Furniture assembly is underway in the Media Center and books are starting to be delivered. Translucent panels around the Reading Room are now complete. A small area between the north door and the Dining Room still needs flooring as that too is now scheduled for August 12. The balance of the Dining Room has all flooring in place and protected and is nearly full of furniture for various places in the building. All floor covering and doors have been installed in the east wing. The punch list for both floors has been created. The fire alarm test is to take place on August 9. The elevator re-inspection is required and that date has been set for August 18. There are still many odds and ends to take care of regarding hardware and selected electrical items.
