The parking lot grading is mostly complete and forms are being
placed and the first concrete pour is expected to happen late
this week. Grading is also underway for the Eighth Street
widening. The power poles will be removed next week, with
paving to immediately follow. The Walnut Creek parking lot
has been paved, but some approaches and curbs need to be placed.
That will take place after the power pole is moved. Asbestos
removal is complete. The necessary work on the footing modifications
and helical pile is underway and should be complete this week.
This will deal with the rubble found at the southwest corner
and allow the footings to be completed. Preparation for the
east wing floor slab is underway and the radiant heat pipes
for approximately one-third of that east wing are in place.
The first floor slab pour should happen next week. Pre-cast
and steel delivery is scheduled to start in early September.
A second erection crew will be added in mid-September to speed
the process. Most of the site utilities on the south portion
have been placed and connection in the street should happen
in the next few days.
The additional parking lot work for Walnut Creek has been
paved and the striping and curb details are being addressed.
Grading for the main Hillside parking lot is underway and
paving is expected to start next week. Preliminary work for
the Eighth Street widening has started. Several light poles
will be removed in the next few days and then the actual widening
itself will begin. The discovered asbestos is being removed.
Unfortunately, the material is brittle which slows the removal
process. If the situation doesn’t improve, it may take
another two weeks to complete. Preparation for the floor slab
for the east wing is underway and work on the radiant tubing
that goes in that slab will start next week. Some masonry
work should also start next week. Pre-cast and steel delivery
and erection will start in early September and by mid-September
a second crew will be added to expedite that process.
Grading is complete and the majority of the foundations have
been placed. Work has started on the east wing floor slab.
Old foundations and tile containing piping wrapped with asbestos
has been discovered in the west wing’s southwest corner.
Solutions have been identified, however, it is causing delay
to the project in this area. Work on reducing the asbestos
will start on Aug. 18 and could take as long as three weeks,
depending on what is discovered as the piping is uncovered.
The most economical solution for dealing with the old foundations
has been determined to be helical piles. That work should
also start later in the week of Aug. 18. The off site storm
sewer has been installed and is ready for our connection at
the manhole in the street. The on site storm sewer work is
complete on the north end of the site, but work still remains
to be completed at the south end. Parking lot work at Walnut
Creek is underway with paving scheduled for later this week.
The Eighth Street widening will immediately follow the paving.
Precast and structural steel are scheduled for arrival the
week of August 25. While delays are occurring on the west
wing due to the asbestos, the overall schedule has not been
compromised, just the sequencing.
Work continues on the east wing footings, with exterior and
interior footings to be complete later this week. Most footings
for the center wing are also complete and should be done early
next week. The west wing exterior footings are nearly complete,
but are stalled due to debris from old foundations that affects
one small portion in the southwest corner of the building.
A lay tile that runs for nearly 200 feet down the center of
this wing affects the interior footings. This tile contains
a couple of pipes and some questionable insulation and will
need to be removed. Most underground work is complete in the
center wing and is underway in the east wing with completion
scheduled for next week. Work on the slab in the east wing
should start the middle of next week. Most of the onsite storm
sewer work on the north portion of the property is in place
and installation of the south portion will start next week.
The offsite storm sewer and water line in Eighth Street are
nearly complete and should be ready for connection to our
site in the next couple of weeks. Work should start on the
Walnut Creek parking lot next week so it is ready for the
start of classes later in August. Precast and steel production
are underway with the first deliveries of precast scheduled
for mid-August and steel in late August.
