Site work continues with most of the
parking lot complete. A number of sidewalks at the parking
lot edge, as well as on the site perimeter are now poured.
Work is also underway on some of the playground areas next
to the west wing and the sidewalk from the bus drop-off on
the south. Window installation continues, with most of the
1st floor windows on both wings in place and approximately
1/3 of the 2nd floor windows in place. This work, along with
the installation of doorways and the storefront, continues
to be a critical item. Drywall in the west wing is virtually
complete. Most MDF board has also been placed in the west
wing and some of the finish accent painting has been done
also. Most of the drywall in the center wing has been installed
and taping and floating is well underway in that area. In
the east wing, most of the floor corridors are complete with
taping and floating underway there. There are significant
amounts of drywall and MDF still to be hung in those areas,
particularly exterior walls, since the windows need to be
installed to assure the sheet rock will not get wet. Duct
work and fire sprinkler piping is nearing completion. Permanent
power is still not connected and thus the elevator work has
not started. Tile for some of the east wing restrooms is now
stockpiled, but actual installation is expected to start any
day.
The wet weather has slowed down
site work, however most of the sidewalk along Eighth Street
and along Hillside Avenue has been poured with interior walks
and playground areas to follow. Window installation goes on
and it continues to be a critical item. There are still a
number of windows to be installed on the 2nd floor of the
east wing; and on the 1st floor, doors and storefront windows
in the entrances are expected to be completed within the next
week. Most of the drywall in the west wing is complete and
painting is underway. The installation of MDF board is also
well underway in the west wing. Much drywall has been installed
in the center wing and in the administrative area, and the
taping and floating has now started in those areas. Drywall
for the first floor of the east wing corridor is complete
and most taping and floating is also done. Almost all drywall
is hung in the corridor of the 2nd floor and taping and floating
is underway. There is still drywall and MDF to be hung in
the east wing rooms, particularly on exterior walls, but windows
need to be installed first to assure that a driving rainstorm
doesn’t get the drywall wet. Most of the duct work and
fire sprinkler piping is in place, although some work still
continues in the center wing. Permanent power still is not
connected and thus the elevator work has not started. Plumbers
and electricians continue on schedule. Tile work is expected
to start again very soon. The concrete drive and parking
lot are completed. Grading continues around the building.
The perimeter construction fence has been removed and most
of the sidewalk along Eighth Street has been poured. Additionally,
the curbs have now been backfilled on Eighth Street. Site
work is underway on play areas on the south side of the building.
Window installation continues and is complete on all classroom
spaces on the 1st floor. There are still a number of windows
to install on the 2nd floor and windows and storefronts at
the entrances and should be complete by the end of next week.
Drywall in the east wing is complete including taping and
floating and some prime painting has been done in that area.
Taping and floating is underway on drywall in the center wing.
Drywall is still being hung on the 1st floor level of the
east wing and still remains to be done on the 2nd floor level
of the east wing. Most of the drywall is now hung in the administrative
area and only two or three windows remain to be installed
in that area. Most sprinkler piping and duct work is in place
and plumbers and electricians continue on schedule. Kitchen
equipment has been ordered. Elevator work is scheduled to
start as soon as permanent power to the building has connected
by MidAmerican Energy. MDF board mockup has been approved
and that work will start in mass next week. Bids have been
received on furniture, fixtures and equipment. A portion has
been awarded and we are close to locking down awards on the
balance. Furniture should start arriving in July.
The site is finally starting to dry, after all of the wet
weather. Grading and concrete contractors will be on site
next week to work on the remaining grading, paving and sidewalks.
Masonry is virtually complete on the exterior and only minor
items remain on the interior. Drywall is taped and floated
in the west wing and hanging drywall is underway in the east
wing. In certain areas where window installation is not complete,
the drywall work cannot be completed, however. Window installation
continues to be critical and another shipment of glass is
due on Tuesday, April 6. All of the windows are to be in place
by the end of April. Sprinkler piping will be complete in
the west wing early next week and is complete on the first
floor of the east wing with the second floor scheduled to
be complete late next week. The cooling tower has now been
set. Plumbers and electricians continue with their work. Duct
work is nearly complete.
Grading around the building and for
the balance of the concrete driveway is near completion. The
concrete contractor is scheduled to be on site early next
week to start paving the balance of the parking and sidewalks.
Masonry work is complete inside and outside. The painters
are starting to prepare areas for prime paint in the west
wing. Taping and floating of drywall in the center wing and
first floor corridor of the east wing is underway. There is
still drywall to hang, as window installation allows in both
levels of the east wing. Window installation continues to
be the critical path, with all windows scheduled to be installed
by the last week of April. Sprinkler piping is complete in
the west wing and is well underway in the east wing. Most
duct work has been placed, with only a few minor pieces yet
to install. Plumbers are on pace and electricians will add
additional staff in order to get back on schedule.
