Construction
on the addition and remodel of Crestview Elementary School,
8355 Franklin Avenue in Clive, began in June 2009 and
is scheduled to be completed in the for the beginning of the 2010-11 school year.
During the 2009-10 school year, Crestview students will be housed at the former
Clegg Park Elementary School located at 1020-8th Street in
West Des Moines. Students will move back into their own building upon the completion of the remodeling project in the fall of 2010.
The past month has been busy at Crestview Elementary. Construction started on June 6 with site fencing and mobilization. Once the faculty and staff were moved out of the building, demo work began in the north wing while the central wing was going through abatement. This involved removing lockers, ceiling tile, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, flooring, etc. By the end of June, abatement was complete in the western portion of the central wing with parts of the east half remaining. Once the abatement contractor is completed, demolition work will continue in the east half of the central wing. Footings in the reading and mechanical additions have begun and should be complete soon. Everything is coming along quite well at Crestview with the help of the entire project team: the prime contractors, The Weitz Company, SVPA, KJWW, and the West Des Moines School District.
Corridors 12C01 (West Portion) and 14C02 are complete with demolition and are into foundation work and rough-in. In the next couple of weeks we will be installing ductwork in the central corridor areas and installing underground mechanical in the North and Central Corridors.
In the Reading/Special Ed addition we have completed footings and will be pouring slab on grade and starting vertical construction in the next few weeks.
