After looking at several alternatives, a
decision has been reached on how best to address the bad soil
problem on the south side of the building beneath the new
structure. Work is underway to remove the soil. Work on footings
should start next week as wet weather (on Thursday, July 29)
has further delayed that process. Also, excavation is underway
under the new portion of the building that will be on the
north side and any suitable material that comes from that
excavation will be used in the material put back on the south
side addition. Rough grading has been completed for both the
south parking lot and the north parking lot; however, work
on paving of those lots will not take place until after the
footings have been poured. Most of the site utilities are
in, although some must now be reworked beneath the south addition
due to the additional excavation that is now required.
The south parking lot is now ready for pavement.
Footing excavation for the south addition has taken place
and some unsuitable soil was encountered. Work is on hold
while the most economical solution to the problem is being
found. Excavation is underway for the new north portion of
the building.
The above ground portions of buildings
have been removed and cleared away and work continues on removal
of foundations and other underground items. Work continues
on installation of utility lines south of the building and
on the storm sewer line on the northwest corner of the site.
Electricians have started preliminary work inside the existing
building. Soon the demolition phase will be completed and
work will start on new construction, as well as the remodeling
of existing areas.
Demolition is underway with the majority
of the above grade work either down or will be down and cleaned
up by the end of this week. The south parking lot has been
rough graded following the demolition of the church and house.
Storm sewer lines are being installed in the area south of
the existing building and on the northwest corner of the site.
Work is underway to tie the storm sewer into the existing
storm sewer lines. A couple of unexpected lines have been
discovered in the course of the work; however, at this point,
those obstacles have been overcome and work is proceeding.
