Band Bash (Grades 5-12)
Opportunities for instrumental music students to develop important skills to be members of elementary, junior high and eventually Valley High School band. Includes private and/or group lessons as well as rehearsal band (grades 5-6). If signing up for group lessons, please find your own partner and receive instructor approval before registering.

  • A concert will be held July 24 at 7:00 pm in the Valley High School Auditorium.
  • Rehearsal Band meets every day for two weeks.
  • On the final day, June 25, students will visit Adventureland to perform then enjoy the park.

Summer Jazz Jam Workshop
This is a fun, four-day workshop! In each class students will learn to play jazz focusing on blues, swing, Latin and rock styles. On the last day, there will be an informal concert for parents, family and friends. Classes meet four times (6/28, 6/29, 6/30 and 7/1) with each class session lasting one hour and thirty minutes. Combos range from 6-9 instruments in size and utilize mixed instrumentation. Students are assigned to a combo through director recommendation/ability grouping.

Super Summer Strings (Grades 4-8)

PRIVATE STRING LESSONS – Over a four-week period, students will have four, one half-hour private lessons based on instructor availability. The goal of private lessons is to help string students grow in their skills and prepare for more advanced study.

ORCHESTRA –Students participate in orchestra rehearsals, musicianship classes (including ear training and theory) and sectional rehearsals. This is an intensive study of orchestra music and listening skills, culminating with a concert at Adventureland on June 25.

FAQ's Create New Account

How do I begin the online registration process?
Click the "Create New Account" button (located above) to set up an individual/family account. Please complete the "New Account Request" form with your information. Please DO NOT begin with a child's account. Once you have completed your information, you may enter all other family members.

Please Note:If you already have an account through our LEARNwest program please use that login information or if you have already received a user name and password from the West Des Moines Community Education office please DO NOT create another account. If you have questions, please call 633-5001.

Register Online Now!
Once your account is established, click the "View Class List" or "My Account" button to begin the registration process. All information provided is on a secured server and credit card information is encrypted for your protection.

View Class Listings
You may view classes without setting up an account. To view all classes offered, click the "View Class Listings" button. It is easy to find classes of interest; search by class category, class type or class sub-category. Once you find a class of interest, click on the class link to view detailed information about the activity.

Information
All programs have different registration procedures, please read each program's instructions carefully and call 633-5001 with any questions.

Registration Opens
March 8
*Does not include Safety Town and Sneak Peek. Please see individual program requirements.

Payment Options
Personal checks, credit cards, and cash are all accepted. If paying cash, you must pay in person at the Community Education office during office hours.

Scholarships
Funds, based on financial need, are available to assist WDMCSD students with tuition for most classes. Priority is given to those taking refresher courses. Students must live within WDMCSD boundaries. Call (515) 633-5001 for details.

Refunds
An $8 charge is deducted from all refunds, except classes cancelled by Community Education and those listed below. Refund requests must be made before the second class session. *Please see the Youth Tech Inc. page for the refund policy.

Cancellations
Jump Start - No refund after July 10.
Safety Town - No refund after June 1.

Photo Release
If you prefer that your child is not photographed during summer programs, check the appropriate box on the registration form. These photographs may be used in Community Education and district publications and the website, as well as in the local media and newspapers. When photos are used on the website, the child’s name WILL NOT be included.
