What is Project Shine?
Project Shine is a West Des Moines Community Education program
that is funded by grant money. It is part of Brighter Beginnings,
our early family learning program. Project Shine provides
an opportunity for all preschool aged children to attend a
quality preschool program regardless of income. Project Shine
offers preschool registration and tuition fee payment, fun
home visits and great information for parents of preschoolers.
Who is eligible?
To qualify, your family/child must meet these guidelines:
1. Your child must be ages three through
five and not yet in kindergarten.
2. Your family must live within the West
Des Moines Community School District.
3. Your family income must meet Project Shine
guidelines.
What preschool would
my child attend?
The Project Shine Coordinator will work closely with you to
find an area preschool that you like and will meet the needs
of your child.
What are home visits
and what should I expect?
Home visits are a wonderful opportunity for families to share
fun activities and get information provided by a certified
early childhood teacher. Visits last from 30 – 60 minutes
and are offered throughout the year.
How do I determine
if my child is eligible?
If you qualify for free/reduced lunch or for services through
Human Services, you may already qualify. All participants
need to fill out a PROJECT SHINE APPLICATION, which is available
by calling Holly Burns, Project Shine Coordinator, at (515)
