Teens

Activities (15 Responses)

• Need activities for teens
• Target 3 to 5 p.m. and early out days
• Seventh-graders left out (no KIDS WEST or athletics)
• Offer opportunities to socialize outside school and during summer
• Need more Community Education classes
• Ask teens what they want
• Offer sports for seventh grade
• Offer inexpensive and non work-related activities

Facilities (7 Responses)

Need as high priority: place for teens to hang out, play sports and include teens with disabilities

Troubled Teens (5 Responses)

• Concerns:

o Lack of responsibility
o Lack of role modeling
o Drugs and alcohol in schools
o Dropouts
o Drug problems and addictions

• “Different” Valley High School students are not as accepted as in elementary school

Community Culture (4 Responses)

• Community stereotypes teens as “bad” and call cops when kids congregate
• Teen dress offends adults
• Adults prejudge and miss out on knowing and hearing kids
• Pressure to be the best prevents having fun

Support (4 Responses)

• Need parent involvement
• Help teens feel important
• Listen to what they want
• Keep young people young
• Provide transportation for activities
