COMMUNITY EDUCATION

 

Community Education works to enhance community life by providing lifelong learning opportunities, such as making the school buildings available after hours, finding ways for kids to volunteer in the community, helping senior citizens stay active and providing school-aged childcare.


Here is a summary of Community Education's programs and services:

ALL AGES EARLY CHILDHOOD

LEARNwest (Adult Education)
Offers evening and weekend classes for adults and afterschool classes for students.

Learnapalooza
A fun, fabulous and FREE event for all ages. May 2, 2009, 9:00 to Noon at Valley Southwoods Freshman Highschool.

Facility Use
Schedules the use of district buildings before and after school, during the evening, weekends and throughout the summer months.

Tutor Directory
A listing of area tutors.

Strengthening Families
Class for both parents and children to attend together to improve family communication.

Brighter Beginnings
Provides early childhood learning opportunities to families living in the WDMCSD.

Project Shine
Places preschool aged children in local preschools and provides financial assistance for those who qualify.

Parenting Classes
Parents can enroll in a variety of classes through LEARNwest.

ELEMENTARY 
(K-6)
SECONDARY
(7-12)

Adventures
Student can enjoy a variety of fun and educational classes after school, in the evening and on the weekends. 

KIDS WEST
Provides before and after-school childcare at each of the WDMCSD elementary schools, as well as a full-day Summer Daycamp.

Summer Programs
Offers a variety of enrichment and refresher courses. There are exciting learning and growing opportunities for students of all ages

I-CARE
Service learning program that provides students with opportunities to serve their community.

Intramurals
Offers a variety of afterschool competitive activities for students in grades 7-12.

SENIORS
Iowa Senior Olympics
Provides active adults age 50 and over a competitive and recreational event to stay fit and active. The event is held annually in June.

Senior Classes
LEARNwest classes geared just for seniors.
