Shelter-in-Place
There could be an activation of a heightened control procedure
for incoming visitors to a facility. This could range from:
the monitoring of one open entrance, checking all visitors
at the entrance, restricting student and staff movement
in and out of the facility, to actually locking the facility
to all outside visitors (this would include parents). If
visitors (including parents) are not permitted to enter
the facility, in the event of a terrorist attack near the
facility, there will be appropriate information for parents
through the radio and television stations (see Communications).
It is strongly recommended that each family have a communications
plan for informing someone else to care for their family,
in the event that an emergency situation should keep them
from timely care of children, etc. This plan could include:
- Individuals (i.e., family, friends, neighbors) who would
be willing to care for your family. Phone numbers of these
contacts.
- Any special arrangements and/or information.
- Educate your family of this procedure, and the use
of any code word (if necessary) for emergency pick up.
