Finance and Facilities
The learning that occurs in our classrooms is supported by quality facilities and sound financial management. Our Business Services department oversees a $154 million budget and more than 1.5 million square feet of building space.
It has been recognized nationally for its outstanding accounting and reporting, receiving:
- the International Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officers International and
- the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the highest form of recognition in government accounting, from the Government Finance Officers Association.
The department works with representatives of our community and staff to ensure our buildings and funding support student learning. For example:
- Our 10-year facilities plan was developed with the assistance of public meetings, surveys and study groups with community and parent representatives.
- The WDMCS Superintendent’s Finance & Facilities Advisory Committee made up of district staff and three School Board members representing the community meets regularly to discuss funding and facilities projects.
In addition to the budget and facilities, the Business Services department also oversees the Transportation, Food & Nutrition and Operations & Maintenance departments and the Home School Assistance program.
