Summer of Learning

Are you wondering how you’re going to keep your kids busy this summer? We have many fun, enriching, and affordable learning opportunities available! Whether your children need a little extra help in reading, writing, or math, or simply a fun way to expand their knowledge in several subjects, WDMCS Community Education provides a wide variety of activities to choose from.

Below is a list of our Summer of Learning programs. Help your child find a program that sounds interesting, fun, or rewarding, and register today!

Summer Adventures in Learning (SAIL) grades 1-7* – SAIL offers refresher classes in reading, writing, and math, as well as enrichment opportunities such as chess, computers, art, science, sign language, and much more!

Art Adventures grades 1-7* – Students will get creative while exploring a variety of materials and techniques!

Baking Academy grades 7-9* – Students’ will take their baking skills to the next level in this fun, hands-on program.

Band Bash grades 6-12* – Band Bash offers private lessons and rehearsal band to help students develop important skills needed for joining their school band.

Be the Boss! – Youth Entrepreneur Camp Grades 5-6* – Students will experience hands-on entrepreneurship through a variety of highly interactive classroom activities, guest speakers, and a tour of a local business.

Butter Sculpting 101 grades 4-7* – This hands-on class will explore how the State Fair’s world-famous Butter Cow is created!

Digital Discovery grades 7-9* – Students will enhance their digital photography or videography skills.

Fencing grades 2-6*-Students learn the art of fencing. Supplies are provided.

Jump Start grades 1-5* – Jump Start helps students refresh their academic skills for the upcoming school year, while enriching their summer with art, computers, P.E., and science.

Preschool Creations ages 3-5** – Preschoolers will cultivate their creativity in these fun classes.

Project Runway grades 6-8*-Students have the opportunity to create and sew multiple projects.

Safety Town Kindergarten* – Safety Town introduces safety awareness and preventative practices to young children through interactive activities such as visits to the West Des Moines Fire and Police departments.

Safety Town Volunteering grades 6-7* – Safety Town volunteers assist young students as they are introduced to safety awareness and preventative practices through a variety of interactive activities.

Science Exploration grades 1-7* – These classes let students explore a variety of stimulating science subjects.

Sneak Peek Kindergarten* – This morning program gives children a peek at kindergarten by offering the opportunity to experience the activities and daily routines of a typical school day.

Summer Strings grades 5-9* – Summer Strings offers both private instrumental lessons and instruction in an orchestra setting.

Trumpet Adventures grades 5-9* – Join fellow trumpet players in this exciting workshop geared specifically for you!

Youth Tech Inc.  grades 6-12* – Interactive computer camps that focus on providing creative and fun ways to develop technology skills.
