Our Adventures program has fun classes, fun teachers, and fun enriching experiences for K-9 students after school, in the evenings, and on the weekends. Adventures provides a way for students to expand their knowledge or skills in an area of interest and try something beyond the classes that they have during the school day.
Registration is required for all classes and is taken on a first-come basis, so please do not send your child to class without registering them first. Some classes fill quickly, so register early to ensure a spot. If registering close to the start of class, call or check the website to confirm that space is still available. Please send registration forms back to WDMCS Community Education, NOT to your child’s school. You may register one of the following ways:
In Person, Phone, Mail, or Fax
Learning Resource Center 3550 Mills Civic Parkway West Des Moines, IA 50265
515-633-5001 | 515- 633-5099 fax
Office Hours: Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Payment is required at the time of registration. If an email address is provided, a confirmation will automatically be sent.
There is a $10 charge on all refunds except classes filled or cancelled by WDMCS Community Education. To receive a refund, requests must be made by phone or in writing before the class meets a second time. For one-night classes, refunds can only be given before the class is held.
Before Class Supervision
If there is a class at your child’s school that starts at 3:30 p.m. or 4:15 p.m., the teacher will provide supervision in their classroom until the class starts, so your child may go directly there after school. There is no supervision provided before other classes, so your child should not arrive more than five minutes before the class start time.
Getting to Class and Kids West
Adventures instructors are not responsible for getting children to the classes, so please make sure that your child and his/her teacher know that they need to go to the class after school. If your child normally attends Kids West, please let the staff there know that your child is supposed to attend a class. Please make sure your child knows whether to go to Kids West or wait for a ride after the class is over.
Scholarships up to 50% off are available to the WDMCS district residents who qualify. To learn more, please call 515-633-5001.
Occasionally a class will have to be cancelled or postponed due to weather or teacher illness, so please make sure that we have up-to-date contact information for you.
The locations of most of our Adventures classes are determined by the home school of the interested teacher. If a teacher is from outside the district, his/her classes are rotated throughout the district schools. If you have an idea for a new class, or are interested in offering a class or know of someone who is, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
