Students in Miss Rothfus’, Miss Selzer’s, and Mrs. Hart’s 2nd grade classrooms have been studying about plants this year. They have learned what plants need to grow and live, the names of the different plant parts, and the many ways people use plants. Students went to the Des Moines Botanical Center and saw a video on a plant’s life cycle, and then continued their adventure with a scavenger hunt to find a Banyan Tree, Barrel Cactus, Cereus Peruvianus Cactus, Fan Palm Tree, Banana Tree, and the Swiss Cheese Plant. The Japanese Koi Goldfish and the many swimming turtles were a highlight as well!

Students at Clive Elementary had the opportunity to celebrate Fine Arts Day on March 27. Classrooms were transformed into art, dance and music studios for the day. Art teacher Jan Hutchison and Clive parent Katie White coordinated the efforts of local artists, musicians, dancers, and businesses in order to allow students to interact in many artistic mediums. These artists graciously volunteer their time and talents to benefit the students love for the arts. Throughout the day, each grade level had the opportunity to participate in painting tiles that have recently been assembled into a Bloom at Clive garden-themed mural. This mural will be displayed at the school for many years to come. The efforts of many teachers, community members, and parent volunteers made this a fun and wonderful learning experience for the students at Clive.

Clive Elementary students in grades K-6 took a field trip to Skate South. The field trip was to celebrate the Clive PBIS program and the safe, responsible, caring, and respectful choices of our Clive Students. Ask your child about showing their Clive Pride both at school and at home.

Students at Clive Elementary celebrated Read Across America Day and the birthday of Dr. Seuss with reading, fun, and dressing up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character. Students were recognized for their time spent reading during the week and their creativity for the best dressed Dr. Seuss character. All classrooms held a Book Lover’s Ball where students had the opportunity to bring their favorite books from home and share them with their classmates. It was a great opportunity for all to celebrate and share their love of reading! “You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child.” ~ Dr. Seuss.
