Summer of Learning

coverWDMCS Community Education’s Summer of Learning programs are now open for registration. Our Summer of Learning programs provide fun and enriching educational experiences during the summer months for students completing grades K-12. A variety of learning opportunities are offered including:

Art Adventures grades 1-7* – Students will get creative while exploring a variety of materials and techniques!

Band Bash grades 6-12* – Band Bash offers private lessons and rehearsal band to help students develop important skills needed for joining their school band.

Be the Boss! Youth Entrepreneur Camp grades 5-6* – Students will experience hands-on entrepreneurship through a variety of highly interactive classroom activities, guest speakers, and a tour of a local business.

Bricks 4 Kidz grades 1-7* – These camps utilize LEGO® Bricks to demonstrate math, science, language arts, and social studies concepts in a fun and creative way!

Jazz Jam grades 7-9* – Students will focus on beginning to intermediate jazz improvisation.

Jump Start grades 1-5* – Jump Start uses themed learning to help students refresh their academic skills for the upcoming school year, while enriching their summer with art, computers, P.E., and science.

Kids in the Kitchen grades 5-8* – Students will have fun learning how to accurately measure ingredients, follow a recipe, and cook a variety of delicious food!

Safety Town Kindergarten* – Safety Town introduces safety awareness and preventative practices to young children through interactive activities such as visits to the West Des Moines Fire and Police Departments.

Safety Town Volunteering Grades 6-7* – Safety Town volunteers assist young students as they are introduced safety awareness and preventative practices through a variety of interactive activities.

Science Exploration grades 1-7* – These classes let students explore a variety of stimulating science subjects!

Show Choir Camp (Beginning) grades 6-7 – This camp is designed to be a first-time show choir experience and will be appropriate for any student entering into 6th or 7th grade. No organized singing or dancing experience needed.

Show Choir Camp (Experienced) grades 7-8 – This camp is designed for students who have had some experience singing in an organized chorus with no dance experience required. It’s a great way for them to keep singing and dancing even though school is out!

Sneak Peek kindergarten* – This morning program gives children a peek at kindergarten by offering the opportunity to experience the activities and daily routines of a typical school day.

Summer Adventures in Learning (SAIL) grades 1-7* – SAIL offers refresher classes in reading, writing, and math, as well as enrichment opportunities such as chess, computers, art, science, and much more!

Summer Strings grades 5-9* – Summer Strings offers both private instrumental lessons and instruction in an orchestra setting.

Volunteer Opportunities for students finishing grades 9 and up.*

Youth Tech Inc. Grades 5-12* – Offers a variety of interactive computer camps that focus on providing creative and fun ways to develop technology skills.
